- Gravling comes from the Swedish name for badger (grävling) where “gräv”, that translates to dig, is changed to being “grav” which instead means grave.(Or, one being the act of digging while the other refers to the dug hole.)
Some simple and somewhat grim wordplay in other words.
It’s also a way to avoid those pesky accents that most people wouldn’t know how to pronounce properly anyway.
That said you might still be wondering if it’s meant to be pronounced “grahv-ling” or “grave-ling”, to which I would respond; Whichever you think sounds better.
